Hi, I’m Rachel. I’m a doula and Wise Hippo birthing instructor as well as Mummy to two boys and 2 girls who are 13, 11 and 7 and newborn.
After the birth of my second child, I decided that I wanted to become a doula so that I could help other women through what I found to be a very emotional, exciting, and profoundly challenging time.
Over the past few years I have had the privilege to work with families from all different backgrounds, birth experiences and parenting styles.
I have run antenatal and post natal support groups and I’ve learnt the importance of being informed as a parent, and of valuing ourselves as women and as mothers.
I love to meet new parents and watch them develop and grow in confidence as they conquer challenges and find strengths they never knew they had in the process.
For fun, I love a good comedy- laughter is the best medicine- I also love drawing, reading, and am currently learning how to sew.
I am happy to support all births in Chelmsford and the surrounding areas and have a particular passion for homebirth.
For more information as to how I can work with you as a doula, email firstname.lastname@example.org
As a doula I strongly believe that a mother who is emotionally supported is much more likely to have a positive birthing experience, whatever form that may take.
I appreciate the incredible, unpredictable nature of birth, and can help you to become informed on your options in pregnancy and labour, and to prepare for different birth types and scenarios. I do not promote any particular birth or pain relief plan, but gently guide and encourage you to define your own goals and desires. I believe that being informed about our choices gives us as parents a much more positive experience and a feeling of being in control. Which means I will support your choices in birth, whatever those may be. I won’t give medical advice or make any decisions for you. My task is to help you stay comfortable and relaxed, and to ensure you feel safe and secure in your birthing space. I will work with your health care team and your birth partner (if you have one) to achieve this.
Beyond birth, I believe in supporting new parents in finding their own parenting style. Each family is unique and will work in different ways. My role is to encourage and build confidence in new parents as you find your way. I can provide practical support, helping with older children or around the house, taking baby out for a walk while you catch up on some much needed rest, or chatting through feeding and sleeping patterns with you.
I hope to help you create happy memories of these precious early days together as a family, or at least, just get a bit of much needed rest ????

“Contacting you was the best thing I did (well, apart from having the baby)! and I would recommend you, and having a doula to every pregnant woman. Always grateful to you.” -M&M
“Last week we bought our baby boy into the world using The Wise Hippo techniques. The “soothing strokes” were amazing in the pool. We had a 16 hour labour which I don’t think is too bad for our first child. Thank you so much Rachel for being our Doula. We both recommend this to everyone!” -K&J
” All through my pregnancy she helped me to relax about the birthing process and keep me calm. In the event my labour was long and quite medicalised, but Rachel came to support me. I had been feeling overwhelmed and discouraged and was not progressing well. Rachel calmed me down and helped me to trust my body. Almost immediately after her visit I was 10cm!. I will always appreciate her calm, reassuring manner at that time and her positivity really helped me get through it.” -S&P
